Local Homebuilder
is Largest Sponsor for JDRF's Walk
to Cure
Las Vegas homebuilder ASTORIA HOMES™ is
helping to build a bridge to conquer
juvenile diabetes. ASTORIA employees
participated in the annual Walk to
Cure Diabetes on Saturday, Oct. 22
at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas,
with a goal to raise $10,000 for the
charity.
Tom McCormick, president
of ASTORIA HOMES,
promised to match the $10,000 if contribuitors
met the goal. Motivated employees decided
to fundraise in a variety of ways:
A JDRF "Sneaker" benefit
shoe sale was held at the ASTORIA HOMES Design
Center, where customers could purchase
paper shoes with their names for a
$1 or more, donations were requested
from the company's various vendors,
lenders and its title company, a company
raffle was held and they made personal
donations. Once Astoria raised its
goal of $10,000, McCormick kept his
promise and made his donation of the
same amount. According to Rhonda Ramin,
captain for ASTORIA HOMES'
Walk to Cure Diabites team, "ASTORIA currently
stands as the largest corporate contibutor
to the JDRF's Walk campaign with more
than $32,000 raised and more donations
coming in." ASTORIA HOMES has
been a corporate sponsor and an active
participant of the Walk for the past
six years. This year's campaign raised
about four times the amount of money
from last year.
