Homebuilder Astoria Homes Offers
Tips on
Baby-Proofing your Home
(Las Vegas) – While
a baby adds excitement and joy to any
household, parents need to be aware of
the dangers looming around the home for
infants and toddlers. Nearly 31,000 deaths
and more than 7 million injuries are
attributed to household accidents each
year. With these startling statistics,
Las Vegas-based homebuilder Astoria Homes
is offering some simple tips for keeping
infants and small children safe in the
household.
“Infants and toddlers
are curious by nature,” said Sia
Howe, director of marketing for Astoria
Homes. “Several easy solutions can
be applied throughout the house to keep
your little ones safe.”
-
Set your hot water heater
thermostat for 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bathwater for infants should be cooler
than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Always check bathwater
temperature with the wrist or elbow before
putting a baby into the water.
-
Never leave children
unsupervised in the bathtub or swimming
pool.
-
Pool owners should fence
the pool completely. Pool owners should
also be certain all family members are
trained in swimming and CPR.
-
Use child safety gates
at the top and bottom of staircases.
Be certain gates are installed properly.
-
Cover all unused electrical
outlets with child safety caps and be
sure to keep electrical cords and wires
out of reach of children.
-
Tie up all window covering
pull cords.
-
Check that crib bars
are no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and
that the crib mattress fits tightly so
there are no spaces for an infant to
fall into.
-
Keep all household cleaners
in a locked cabinet or out of reach of
children.
According to the National
Safety Council, hazards for infants and
toddlers are found everywhere in the home.
The council provides a number of resources
to protect children from household accidents.
For more information, the National Safety
Council’s website can be accessed

“We encourage all of
our homeowners and others to take extra
precautions to ensure the safety of their
babies and young ones,” Howe said.
