ASTORIA HOMES Announces
Top Home Trends for 2002
Las Vegas Valley residents are changing the way they live. With the demands
of jobs and family, lifestyles have been altering and a growing number of
homebuyers are seeking living environments that suit them.
Sia Howe, director of marketing
for Las Vegas-based Astoria Homes, is sharing
the following top trends for new homes in
Southern Nevada:
- Bigger Rooms. From master bedrooms
to kids' rooms, bigger is better in new
homes. Most kids' rooms must now accommodate
computers, televisions, VCR's and video
game systems. Astoria Homes, for instance,
consistently adds two to four feet to
each dimension of the standard 10 x 10-foot
room. "We're seeing that more people
would rather have bigger rooms than a
lot of fancy amenities," said Howe. "Many
homeowners tend to equate more space
with more value."
- Home Offices. Since more people work
from home or bring work home with them,
the home office has become standard in
many of today's new homes. "We try to
offer the flexibility of rooms to be
utilized by our buyers the way they wish
to use the space," Howe said. "This along
with additional wiring is one way we
are trying to meet this very popular
need in all of our homes."
- Media Rooms. Since home entertainment
has gone high tech, many of today's new
homes feature media rooms, which have
replaced dens in new homes. Howe said
Astoria Homes' Ironwood, Villa Villagio
and Auburn Hills communities feature
these large rooms with the space and
electrical and cable wiring to host big
screen televisions and home theater systems,
common among new home buyers.
- Flexibility. Homebuyers in 2002 will
be looking for more flexibility in living
space, such as rooms that double as a
sitting room and a guestroom. Homes in
Astoria's Ironwood, Villa Villagio and
Auburn Hills communities offer rooms
or large lofts that offer this adaptability
and accommodate the lifestyles of residents
looking to purchase a new home in the
valley.
- Storage. Also key for new homebuyers
is plenty of storage space. This trend
is forcing home builders to offer more
cabinet space and bigger closets to provide
ample storage.
"We offer a three-car garage
as a standard amenity in some of our communities," said
Howe. "Most people like the idea of having
that extra storage space rather than parking
a third car there. Efficient storage, like
the other top trends, is becoming increasingly
popular."
